Director of Brewing

Job Summary

The Director of Brewing is responsible for all aspects of the brewing and packaging process, aligns department objectives with those of the entire organization and supports/develops all employees within the Brewing Department. This includes managing growth initiatives while ensuring consistent quality, production and team leadership. The Director of Brewing manages a leadership team including a Production Manager, QA/QC and maintenance team. This person models a balance of the passion and fun of working in the craft beer industry with the business and leadership skills required to drive progress and get the job done right.


Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Oversees all brewery operations including production, packaging, maintenance and Quality Control.
  • Responsible for the hiring, training and development, coaching, and performance appraisals for the brewery leadership team.
  • Oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of improvement initiatives designed to facilitate greater production efficiencies and quality.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of short-term and long-term production planning.
  • Translates overall company business strategy into operational goals and objectives for the brewery.
  • Collaborates on all production activities and creates schedules in accordance with sales forecasts and demands.
  • Works closely with the Production Manager to monitor staffing, expenses, and resource management to fulfill organizational requirements.
  • Researches industry trends to continuously evolve the brewery operations standards.
    Works closely with the brewery leadership team to audit brewery shifts (brewing, packaging, cellaring, cleaning, etc.) to ensure that procedures and protocols are being upheld.
  • Regularly inspects the brewery to ensure operations are in alignment with company quality, sanitation, and safety standards.
  • Assesses equipment improvement projects and purchases to maximize benefit from capital investments.
  • Ensures a safe working environment for employees by maintaining facility and equipment in optimal working conditions.
  • Collaborates with the brewery leadership on the development of brewery policies and procedures.
  • Devises standard operating practices for the brewery.
  • Works closely with the VP of Finance to establish key metrics and develops plans to provide accurate lean accounting and inventory control to support the managers and drive cost effective actions.
  • Uses financial statements, sales reports, and other data to measure production performance and determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement.
  • Communicates regularly with the entire brewery staff to keep them apprised of brewery objectives and performance level.
  • Provides review and oversight of Quality Assurance/Quality Control techniques and procedures to continuously improve the quality and consistency of our products.
  • Participates as an active member of Hangar 24’s senior leadership team
    Collaborates on new beer development, including recipe creation, evaluation of new ingredients and styles.
  • Assumes a teaching role in staff development program creation, implementation and evaluation.
  • Serves as a beer ambassador, representing the company in speaking engagements throughout the country

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in a natural science, business, engineering, or related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience within a brewery environment.
  • Solid working knowledge of and passion for the craft beer industry.

Packaging Technician

Overall Responsibilities
Follows procedures in an efficient, responsible manner to package beer in various containers, such as kegs, bottles and cans.

Requirements and Competencies

  • Adheres to all standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
  • Adheres to sanitation standards
  • Operates the keg washing, kegging, bottling and canning machinery in a safe and efficient manner
  • Logs all packaged products
  • Maintains and operates transfer equipment to the kegging system, bottling line and canning line
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the packaging goals per shift
  • Maintains 5S standards in the workplace
  • Demonstrates proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Acquires Forklift Certification and operates forklift safely
  • Performs tasks and communicates hazards to maintain a safe work area
  • Performs equipment maintenance tasks, including but not limited to: Bottling Machine, Canning Line, Keg Washer, Forklift, Pallet Jacks

Beer Tender

Pay Classification

Overall Responsibilities
Sells beer and other retail products to customers during Tasting Room hours.

Key areas of Responsibility

  • Processes beer sales (pints, six-packs, growlers, kegs and related equipment) and other merchandise (t-shirts, window stickers, pint glasses, gift certificates and tap handles) to retail customers.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly tasting room, bathroom and other areas of the brewery open to customers during hours of operation.
  • Ensures that all customers are abiding by rules and regulations as established by Alcohol Beverage Control, and the state, county and city in which we conduct business.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of beer offerings (flavors, ingredients, etc.) in order to answer questions from customers, as well as conduct tastings

Orange County Sales Representative

Overall Responsibilities
Pursues new on-premise accounts while servicing current accounts in the Orange County area; building the number of accounts within the sales goals provided. 

Requirements and Competencies

  • High School diploma with 2 years College. 4 year College degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated sales skills required and at least 2 years sales experience (beverage industry preferred).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent internal and external customer service skills.
  • Highly organized with ability to manage priorities and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for regular call frequency on assigned retail accounts primarily to sell volume, increase distribution, merchandise, monitor price and shelf space management.
  • Build business relationships using a high level of selling skills and present professional sales presentations using sales histories and segment data.
  • Responsible for maintaining brewery freshness standards in assigned retail accounts by monitoring and rotating stocks.
  • Responsible for maintaining up-to-date route & customer data.
  • Sell in new beer placements, merchandise beer display, book promotional sampling events.
  • Increase shelf space and position for Hangar 24 craft beers and alliance brands. Introduce new craft beer brands and packages where appropriate.
  • Work with Credit Department to resolve credit issues including collecting past due balances
  • Responsible for daily decisions regarding retail inventory levels using past sales history, changes in climate, competitive activity and special promotional activities
  • Responsible for fulfilling pre-established objectives set by the Sales Manager and implementation of sales and distribution programs at retail level
  • Responsible for any other tasks deemed necessary by Sales Manager

Overall Responsibilities
Provides service to current off-premise accounts by stocking shelves, checking inventory, and pursuing new accounts in the Inland Empire area.

Requirements and Competencies

  • Stocks shelves including FIFO inventory rotation
  • Stocks and rotates inventory according to FIFO method
  • Take the initiative required to build relationships with off-premise accounts including managers, stock people, and receivers
  • Builds merchandise displays
  • Places POP and POS marketing materials
  • Assists with and/or writes delivery orders to ensure accounts have sufficient stock for sales needs
  • Uses “down time” to seek new accounts for off premise sales, including liquor stores and service stations close to established accounts. 

Qualifications

  • Valid California Driver License with a satisfactory driving record

Warehouse Associate

Job Summary
Receives warehouse deliveries, organizes warehouse inventory, and maintains warehouse cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists with loading and unloading of delivery trucks
  • Uses forklift, pallet jacks, hand carts, and other equipment to organize warehouse inventory
  • Documents products picked, quantity accuracy, ticket discrepancies
  • Cleans wrapping, pallets, broken glass and other trash from the warehouse
  • Receives product deliveries, inspecting deliveries received to ensure that the order is complete and saleable
  • Pulls product for customer orders
  • Inspects customer orders to ensure that the order is accurate, complete and saleable, notifying the Warehouse Supervisor or Manager of any product discrepancies or shortages
  • Interacts with will-call customers on order completion and status
  • Repacks product from damaged packaging into saleable packages
  • Sorts by product and by brand
  • Occasionally makes same day product deliveries using a class C vehicle
  • Occasionally moves trucks on company premises
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Posts cash transactions
  • Verifies and processes inventory receipts in GP
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts for two companies, which includes, but is not limited to cash, prepaid, accruals, inventory and inter-company
  • Prepares month-end journal entries
  • Assists with month-end close
  • Coordinates, reviews and adjusts monthly physical inventory
  • Monitors and reviews inventory costs
  • Completes other projects and assignments as requested

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

Marketing and Social Media Coordinator

Overall Responsibilities
Executing the Hangar 24 marketing plan.  Creation of physical marketing materials for external sales and events. Management of digital marketing channels including social media and email marketing.  Production of internal marketing materials for the Hangar 24 brand.  Acts as a liaison between internal departments and external creative, advertising, or production companies, ensuring that all materials related to the Hangar 24 brand are true to brand and of consistent high quality.

Key areas of Responsibility

  • Assistance in the creation of overall marketing strategies and campaigns
  • Copywriting for sponsorships, social media, email, radio, print, and other media
  • Managing content schedule and creation for social media
  • Develop brand awareness, generate inbound traffic and cultivate leads as sales
  • Monitor, listen and respond to users in a “Social” way to grow Hangar 24 brand awareness
  • Compile monthly metric report showing ROI on social media program
  • Facilitating public relations development and the creation of PR opportunities.  Including some press release writing and review
  • Conduct on-line advocacy for company cross promotions
  • Assistance with event coordination, execution and support.  This will require some evening and weekend work
  • Working with Tasting Room managers to create and execute promotion schedules
  • Coordinating and streamlining all packaging design and re-design in conjunction with Hangar 24 guidelines
  • Preparing creative briefs and job tickets to streamline all new design and creative work
  • Working with outside creative agents to produce new art, as needed, for events and product launch
  • Working with printers to create physical marketing materials for events and sponsorships
  • Key member of Hangar 24 Barrel Roll program
  • Assisting in other aspects of the marketing plan on an as-needed basis

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in design-related field, public relations or marketing, or 2 years of experience.
  • Maintain excellent writing and language skills
  • Previous Social Media Marketing experience
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications, and public relations activities

Customer Service Representative

Overall Responsibilities
Interacts with both customers and employees to provide excellent sales service. Solicits sales and receives orders from field Sales Representatives, and enters, tracks, coordinates/schedules delivery and/or will-call pick up. Processes same-day requests and provides support to the sales team with regard to inventory availability, order changes, and new account setup.

Key areas of Responsibility

  • Cover phones and greet visitors at front desk
  • Receives, enters and tracks sales orders
  • Solicits sales via telephone for house accounts
  • Assists customers with phone orders, will-call sales and donation pick-ups, statement and invoice requests
  • Supports the Sales Representatives and Sales Managers by providing inventory availability, processing order changes and setting up new accounts
  • Customer database maintenance. Includes verifying and updating liquor licenses and resale permits, shipping address changes and updating contact info
  • Assembles POS materials for customer orders
  • Answers general sales inquiries and quotes prices
  • Provides general administrative and clerical support to Sales teams, and other departments when needed
  • Reporting. Access, prepare and send reports when requested by Sales managers. Setup routine sales reports and email weekly to Sales Representatives.
  • Prepares and finalizes special deliveries and other paper invoices for field representatives
  • Order office and warehouse supplies and track inventory for two buildings

Qualifications
